We enter the  Training Center on February 5, 2018 for 2 weeks. We will be learning Humanitarian/Welfare principles and the does and don'ts in foreign countries the first week, then we will learn PMG for the next week and fly to Istanbul on Monday the 19th. Hope to be in Kyrgyzstan around the 22nd.

May 7th -May 9  We went to Helsinki, Finland via Moscow, to get Russian visas. We also had 5 other passports that needed visa for the young volunteers.   We had a 2  hour layover in Moscow. I bought a Nesting Christmas Tree in on of the shops.  Then we had a 2 1/2 hour flight to Helsinki. We were served fish sandwiches on the flight. (Gross, no thank you)  A person met us after we got off the plane and took them to the US Embassy. We had a taxi drive us to The Temple area.    Not many places where you take a new Mercedes S 560 taxi to and from the airport.  We stayed in the Temple guesthouse. The room was for families and would have slept 6-8 people;  it also had a kitchen.  We walked to a German grocery store. I found Licorice!  Yahoo!  We got some breakfast foods, fruit and milk.  The next day we were able to attend a Temple session. April 2 - April 8

Tuesday April 3 Purchased air conditioners for our first project. We will have them installed in the Bishkek Rehabilitation Center for the Disabled.  This is the place where we taught and assembled the wheelchairs for the Bishkek area. Luckily the weather wasn't bad so the rooms were comfortable. The major rooms face west so in the summer the sun heats up those rooms immensely. There is one of those rooms that have heat lamps for therapy and the room gets extremely hot. LDS Charities provided 6 wall mounted AC's for the main west rooms which will help or eliminate the extreme heat during the day. Wednesday April 4 Wheelchair Recipients Interview start: Today we went out doing follow ups for wheelchair recipients from last year. We have to account for the wheelchairs after 6 months of being given out. So from last Nov dispersement we did the checks. This was a real eye opener.  The Wheelchair recipients live in remote villages.  We saw five recipients today. ...

May 30th  -We were flying to Osh in Southern Kyrgyzstan. We got on the flight at 12:00 noon. It is a 1/2 hr flight, the turbulence was very bad on the way there. When we got to Osh, the plane kept going up and down, side ways and circling the city about 8 to 10 times. The the wind was blowing so hard that the pilot couldn't land. People were getting sick and asking for vomit bags. The stewardesses were keeping busy with people and messes, and trying to stay upright in the isles. People were scared we were going to crash! The pilot never announced anything to us, we just kept circling the city. We could see as we went down and then up again and as we circled around and around. We couldn't land, so the pilot headed back for Bishkek. On the way back about 10 minutes later the pilot came on and told us what happened. When we got back in the airport, the people in charge didn't know if there would be another flight until 5:00pm back to Osh that day.  Jyldyz, our interpreter, ha...
