March 19-25

Monday March 19
We meet all the volunteers(12 in all) at a huge mall for lunch. After lunch we did some grocery shopping to buy some things we can't get in Bishkek. The volunteers went back to the meeting house to play some games and we went back to our hotel to rest. That night all the senior couples and the President & his wife went to a Turkish restaurant for dinner and laughs.

Tuesday March 20
Zone conference all day. Great experience. Brought back memories of or first mission. Later that night we decided to have dinner in our room as we did some training with the Carter's.

Wednesday March 21
Carter's flew back to the States at 4:30am. We were so blessed to be trained by them before they left. Wouldn't even know where to start if it wasn't for there great training. Now it is up to us. We know we will have some difficulty trying to converse with these awesome Kyrgyz's people but the spirit will help us convey what we need to say. We didn't fly out until 6:30pm so we got a late check out and had lunch at the hotel and left about 4pm with a member Nursia who drove us to the airport.
Of course we got stopped because I had a can of green beans(for my shepherds pie) in my carry-on. He let us keep them.

Thursday March 22
We start our journey by ourselves. We decided to review some possible projects and decided to start one with the Rehabilitation Center for People with Limited Abilities. This building is where we started another wheel chair initiative March 5th through LDS Charities and Rick & Cyndy Johnson. They go all over Europe and Central Asia areas and train the government how to fit and distribute these chairs.  The Carter's did an earlier project for them of beds and kitchen facilities. They also requested air conditioners for 5 rooms because the heat is unbearable, especially when they are treating people. So as we were doing the wheel chairs we looked at the rooms needed and we could tell even though it was still winter the rooms were facing the sun and we could feel the heat through the windows.
So we went to Techno Dome and priced the AC's with parts and labor and we felt that we could do this project for not much money considering our budget. We submitted our project to LDS Charities and are waiting for approval.

Friday/ Saturday March 23-24
Finally got some needed rest. Just walked around the area to get aquatinted to the shops and stores.
Paid some bills. They do not have a very good postal service here, if any so we pay the bills through machines i.e. phone, cable, internet. We pay the utilities at the Post Office. Yes, they have a post office but they don't deliver mail. It is for people to pay bills our collect their pensions.who manage the receipts for the government. (garbage, cold water, hot water, electric and gas The heating system has radiators that run hot water through them and is run by the government about $33.00 a month which is the highest bill of the month. They do have space heater but most homes have these radiators so when the system breaks down everyone is left in the cold literally. This past winter it did go down and 17 people died from exposure.

SundayMarch 25
Attended our meeting. Nana taught primary. We tried to pay our bills yesterday but we couldn't find the right companies on the machine(can't read Russian) so we asked one of the members at our meeting from Bulgaria to show us how to pay our bills.  To no avail! The machine didn't have the companies either. We traveled back home and went to our local grocery where we had tried before and found a different machine that had all our companies  so we accomplished another goal this week.
